The value of any collectible or collection exists only in the transaction process. The value placed by an appraiser is only an estimate of the collection potential value in a transaction, which may change depending on the demand.

Appraising collectibles

Article Abstract:

Most collectors feel that it is unnecessary to have their collections appraised. However, collections that number in the hundreds and cost at least $25 a piece should be appraised for protective purposes.
