Jefferson's Poplar Forest

Visitors to Lynchburg, VA, can try visiting the Poplar Forest villa built by Thomas Jefferson as a retreat for his family. The octagon-shaped villa is a fine example of 18th-century architecture. Tours are conducted daily from April to November and cost $7 for adults and $6 for seniors.

The friendly skies of butterflies

The Cockrell Butterfly Center in the Houston Museum of Natural Science offers an ideal habitat for butterflies. The center draws as many as 4,000 people a day, who come not only to view the hundreds of butterflies fluttering beneath a glass cone but also for the exhibits on insects.
