Article Abstract:
Duke Ellington was perhaps the greatest composer, arranger and bandleader, admired equally by his fans and his contemporaries. Although Ellington was a pianist, his instrument was orchestration, yet in spite of his position as one of modern music's greatest masters, few of his arrangements exist in published form, which makes it almost impossible to analyze his orchestral style.
