Poor reception
Article Abstract:
Midwives belonging to the United Kingdom's Royal College of Midwives (RCM) are lacking confidence in the union's activities and its ability to address the current issues which are concerning its members. Midwives from all over the country have confidentially provided reasons for their dissatisfaction, which include having to work longer hours, staff shortages, health and safety issues, management practices, and a general lack of support from within the staff development structure and from the RCM. Although the RCM is a professional body, its role is as a union and this activity needs to be strengthened.

Mobile telephones
Article Abstract:
The mobile telephone industry in the UK is expected to experience continued growth in terms of call volume, subscription rates and revenue. The year 1998 saw a tremendous increase in the number of mobile phone owners, mainly due to the strong demand for pre-pay phones. Ironically, it is the pre-pay phone sector which could pull down the market since pre-pay owners tend to use their equipment less and therefore provide less revenue than contract users. The mobile phone industry is also likely to post increases in advertising expenditure as well as more innovations.

Reel projections
Article Abstract:
Motion picture depictions of the future are always bleak and menacing, with sterile, minimalist decors. Several films are cited as examples of Hollywood's warning of what the world could become. Forewarned, one should reject technology for lush fabrics and antiques.
