Botanical illustration in today's framework

Article Abstract:

Botanical illustration may be over 3000 years old, and continues to be vitally important to all interested in plants. The earliest examples of botanical art have been found inside Egyptian tombs and served largely as decoration. Around 500 AD, illustrations of plants accompanied written descriptions of their medicinal value. Modern botanical art emphasizes precise details, usually rendered in watercolor.
