New life for boxwoods
Article Abstract:
Landscape architect John James's home in Orange, VA, came with overgrown boxwoods that formed an unsightly barrier. Rather than replace the plants, James cleaned the shrubs of dead branches and foliage, cleared the lower trunk and pruned the tops. The plants now form an attractive open fence.

From barren to beautiful

Sharon and Michael Carlton transformed their barren front yard in three weekends into an attractive cutting garden with the help of contractor Paul Wright. A low stone retaining wall was built into the sloping yard, which was covered with topsoil and planted with flowers for only $1,027.
