Provenance, defining our terms
Article Abstract:
Plant enthusiasts often mistakenly believe native plants are grouped according to states, countries or other artificial boundaries. In fact, native plants may only have a growing range that encompasses a small area, which can vary according to climatic factors or soil type. Marketing departments can also err by labeling indigenous plants as those that were grown locally. Native plants should be defined as those that have evolved and adapted to a specific location and have remained genetically unaltered by humans.

The truth about weed laws
Article Abstract:
Weed laws, originally adopted to benefit farmers, are being used against homeowners who prefer natural-landscape gardens to the traditional expanse of green lawn. Even though such gardens support a wide diversity of plant species and require little or no chemicals or maintenance, lawns are the standard by which neighborhood yards are judged.
