Remodeling the mum: new shapes and sizes - hardier and less demanding - are on their way from Minnesota
Article Abstract:
Researchers at the University of Minnesota have been breeding hardier and longer blooming mums since the 1930s. 'Betty Lou' produces seedlings and is resistant to cold weather. The University is working on mums that will propagate from seed, bloom earlier in the year, and require less attention. Researchers hope to develop a shorter mum that does not need retardants for patio and indoor use.
