Mosquitoes can be discouraged by insuring there are no standing water areas near the garden, but water gardens containing mosquito fish can handle the onslaught of the flying insects. Alternative solutions for gardeners include proper clothing and natural insect repellents.

Feats of clay: potter Guy Wolff puts a new spin on an old art

Wolff is one of the few American potters who produce wheel-thrown terra-cotta flower pots. He has worked in his shop near New Preston, CT, since 1971, and is a master at his craft. He even has some of his flower pots in the White House garden.
