Saving an old cane chair
Article Abstract:
There are four kinds of cane chairs: hand, pressed, basket weave and rush. One way to preserve the cane is to apply a coating of boiled linseed oil mixed with turpentine. The reed and splint parts do not need varnish, but natural and fiber rush cane should be protected with shellac.

Adirondack chairs have long been favorites in American backyards. Step-by-step instructions are given for a simple technique, using simple tools to construct such a wooden chair. Cedar or pine is suggested as the wood to use. Diagrams and a cutting list are also provided.
