The Smithsonian Institution has many Southerners in its roster of employees. Among them are the National Museum of Natural History's Frank Braisted and paleoanthropologist Jennifer Clark, Bob Padgett of the National Air and Space Museum, and National Museum of African Art senior curator Dr. Roslyn Walker.

The Edison/Ford Winter Estates in Florida employs actors to portray the role of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison in order to give visitors an interesting tour of the place. Tourists are also introduced to some of Edison's most notable inventions, including the telegraph and electric lights.
