Fritillarias are also known as snake's-head lilies. There are 100 species of these perennial herbs. Fritillarias are grown throughout the temperate zones of the world, especially in western North America, Asia and the Mediterranean regions. They do not grow well in gardens.

Forcing hardy bulbs

Techniques for forcing flowering bulbs to bloom indoors are presented. Bulbs can be forced as early as January if planted in September. Bulbs must experience cold to bloom, so they should be put in cold storage in a celler, a cold frame or even the refrigerator.
