The EPA's herbicide history
Article Abstract:
As early as 1982, internal EPA memos cited hundreds of reports on drift damage from SU herbicides in which plants would seem to grow perfectly, but would produce little fruit. As the evidence of its adverse effect on non-target plants grew, suggestions were made, including banning these herbicides.

Herbicide drift update
Article Abstract:
Chlorsulfuron herbicides such as Dupont's Glean were shown to destroy crop yields in much smaller concentrations than are likely to drift from sprayed fields. Since drift amounts can be too small to measure and crops show no visible sign of damage before harvest, direct toxicity is hard to prove.

Down with deadly drift
Article Abstract:
Chlorsulfuron may replace atrazine, a herbicide commonly used on corn, but which is contaminating the drinking water in the Midwest. Chlorsulfuron is the first of a new class of herbicides called sulfonylureas that are so toxic that it may be impossible to use them safely.
