Delaware's blue hen bests other fowl as the best state bird in the South. The blue hen was singled out for its role in Delaware history and culture, when during the Revolutionary War, a flock of fighting blue hens diverted the attention of the Delaware Regiment from the horror of seeing people killed.

Getting their feet wet
Article Abstract:
Water plants are easy to grow anywhere near a spring, stream or pond. They are ideal plants even for a man-made backyard pond. Not only do they purify the water, their foliage also helps prevent algae proliferation. However, they need yearly dividing to control their growth.

The perils of purple loosestrife

Purple loosestrife will not invade maintained areas such as streets, sidewalks and suburbian lawns. However, the plant has a tendency to multiply easily when seeds of cultivated hybrids cross-pollinate with flowers of the wild variety.
