The academic consultant
Article Abstract:
The attitudes, styles and objectives of academic consultants differ greatly from those of business consultants. This disparity in orientation of the two consultancy groups results in a conflict of approaches to the corporate environment. Academics place emphasis on the coherence and quality of data, and the importance of information's sources in providing business advice. Business consultants, on the other hand, rely to a greater extent on direct experience and rhetoric. The solutions to issues presented by academics are marked by complexity, while business consultants seek to simplify their presentations to clients. Academics tend to counter any tendency for hasty decisions, while consultants place a high value on meeting deadlines. A table that assists organizations in deciding whether to hire academics as consultants is provided.
