Tall flowers such as cosmos and Malope trifda are often more attractive in a garden than dwarf plants, but they do need staking. Tips on how to stake a variety of plants are given along with information on midseason replanting, root cuttings, layering and basic knots.

The plant borders of paths which run through a garden are usually low. A more dynamic look to a garden is possible when tall and short plants are mixed and precise grading is avoided. Plant variety suggestions are provided.
