Children in the Victorian era were dressed in large bulky clothing that was intended to reflect the social status of their parents. Most wealthy and middle-class children had clothing designed by a dressmaker, whereas poor children often wore hand-me-downs.

The well dressed child

A personal narrative is presented of collecting childrens clothing from the Victorian period of 1820 to 1940. Baby boys and girls were dressed alike for most of this period, and the royal family influenced many fashions, such as sailor suits and tartan.
