The toll of the bluebell
Article Abstract:
New England bluebells are endangered by the destruction of wooded areas that are their preferred habitat. Old forestry techniques that include replanting allow bluebells to survive, but now the woods are not being replanted. Primroses, cowslips and other wildflowers are hurt by deforestation.

Water jokes: gardeners long ago discovered the lighter side of water
Article Abstract:
The use of entertaining water-based architecture in gardens is not very common anymore. It was used extensively in Italian gardens in 16th century Italy and were known then as water games or jokes. The use of water at the Alhambra in Spain also shows that the designer found water to be a joy.

The past at present
Article Abstract:
Two gardens near the Severn Estuary in England have been restored to their original beauty. Westbury Court Garden was begun in 1669 and features a formal Dutch water garden design. Painswick Rococo Garden dates from the 1740s and was made in a eclectic gothic style.
