Baker eyes summer launch for ex-Bassett BR factory
Article Abstract:
Baker Furniture will reopen a 750,000-sq-ft facility on a former Bassett Impact promotional bedroom plant in Hildebran, NC, by summer 1999. The empty factory is being refurbished to become operational as a plant and distribution center by mid-1999, said Baker President Chris Plasman. Production will take up around 400,000 sq ft of the three-story building while the remainder will be used for distribution. Plasman expressed confidence that low unemployment in western North Carolina should not deter the area's fine tradition of furniture making exemplified by such companies as Bernhardt, Century and Henredon.
