EFI buys polyester company
Article Abstract:
European Fiber Inds. (EFI) of the Netherlands has completed its purchase of a majority stake in Hoechst's European Trevira polyester business. EFI has also acquired global rights to the Trevira name as part of the deal. The deal creates a new company, Trevira GmbH, which is a major manufacturer of polyester fiber used in decorative fabrics and fiberfill. Hoechst, which had announced in 1997 its plan to divest its polyester fiber business, will retain a minority stake in Trevira. Hoechst, meanwhile, also intends to have an initial public offering for its Celanese division later in 1998.

Hoechst is renaming FR polyester
Article Abstract:
Hoechst developed a new flame-resistant polyester fiber called Avora FR whose release will be backed by comprehensive marketing. Hoechst general manager, textile fibers, staple and filament Grover Smith noted that Hoechst wanted the name to reflect the product's independence from other polyester fibers, especially the Trevira brands, and autonomy from the company. A consortium made up of businesses owned by Mexico City, Mexico-based Isaac Saba and sons and Koch Industries of Wichita, KS, is expected to acquire Hoechst's polyester operations.
