Wooden furniture is moving away from the 18th century's high-sheen, shiny-brass style to more diversified looks. Even 18th-century cherry is more casual, with lower-sheen finishes, simpler, cleaner hardware and some degree of distressing. According to Howard Ward, vice president of sales and marketing for Pennsylvania House, the company is focusing on casual-lifestyle furniture. Meanwhile, specific high-growth categories in solid-wood bedroom include Louis Philippe, British Empire and Mission. The backbone of most bedroom items is still 18th century.

Kincaid, La-Z-Boy create dramatic rollout for Kinkade
Article Abstract:
La-Z-Boy and Kincaid intend to make a grand presentation of the furnitures designed by Thomas Kinkade, also known as the Painter of Light. The furniture presentation, which will begin on Oct. 15, 1998, will be highlighted with a showing of the painter's artworks and the visit of the artist himself on both showrooms. La-Z-Boy's presentation will include a cottage within the showroom that is aimed at capturing the painter's art while Kincaid is planning a presentation that will include theater lighting together with a stone path.
