Room Plus appoints Kaplan CEO
Article Abstract:
Room Plus, a Paterson, NJ-based producer and seller of youth furniture, has appointed Ronald Kaplan, former chief operating officer and president of Levitz, as the new president, chief executive officer and board member of the company. The appointment has resulted in former chief executive officer Mark Zucker assuming the post of president of merchandising and manufacturing while former president Allan Socher will take on the role of advertising president. Changes in the 16-outlet chain, including a future name of Kids Room Plus and an October 1998 appointment of Stephen Giordano as chief operating officer, are expected to help the company get through a critical period and move towards growth and expansion.

Lea slam dunks Grant Hill rollout
Article Abstract:
Lea Industries of Greensboro, NC, has made a big impression with the introduction of its Grant Hill Collection in September 1998. The youth bedroom furniture collection was accompanied by a life-size cutout of the 6-ft-8-in National Basketball Player, the same strategy that the Ladd unit used when it presented the collection at the furniture market in April 1998. Grant Hill, who has even adapted the round logo for the James Millner furniture collection, is scheduled to make an appearance in October 1998 or early November 1998 in selected Lea Industries stores.
