Kavanagh marks 125 years
Article Abstract:
Kavanagh Furniture of Springfield, MA, is commemorating its 125th anniversary in 1998. Company president and treasurer Jack Nelen claims Kavanagh is one of the oldest, family-run businesses in New England. Kavanagh's first store, known then as the Dennis Nelen Furniture Manufacturing and Retail Co., opened on Main Street. The store then moved to Union Street after William Kavanagh became a partner by the late 1800s. The company now has grown to employ between 40 and 50 people, majority of whom are kins of the original owners.
