Mastercraft buy puts Joan at top
Article Abstract:
Joan Fabrics tops Furniture/Today's list of top upholstery and home furnishings fabric mills, with the acquisition of the Mastercraft Group. The company had non-automotive revenues of $625 million in 1997. The combined revenues of Mastercraft, Joan Fabrics, Main Street Fabrics and a yarn business, placed them ahead of Culp, which only had sales of $500 million for fiscal year ended Feb. 1, 1998. Joan and Culp were among the companies hit by consolidation that affected both mills and converters in the past several years.
