Reality bites
Article Abstract:
Romanian tourism emphasizes Transylvanian locations associated with Dracula, Bram Stoker's fictional vampire, but the country also abounds in beautiful natural scenery, wildlife and historic sites. Stoker's Dracula has little in common with Vlad the Impaler, the 15th century Transylvanian ruler, renowned for his harsh treatment of enemies and subjects, who served as basis for the fictional character. Vlad lived in Targoviste and at Poienari Castle, but never at Bran Castle, which is the main Dracula attraction. Romania should begin promoting its real assets instead of distorting its history for tourist dollars.

Firescaping
Article Abstract:
People living in fire-prone areas should landscape with fire dangers in mind. This means creating a buffer zone around the house composed of low growing succulents and a second zone containing short plants that are well spaced. A third zone, extending about 100 feet from the house, should include thinned vegetation and no tall trees. If trees are used, they should be spaced far apart. Many hints for firescaping are presented.
