An Effective Job Posting System

Article Abstract:

A job posting system (JPS) must be feasible. The JPS must be accepted by those using it. Fairness is essential for building trust in the system. The JPS must meet legal and EEO guidelines. Allow employees to participate in the planning of the system. Applicant eligibility can be grouped into six categories: time with company, time in present position, allowable number of yearly bids, allowable number of simultaneous bids, lateral transfers, and standing with the company. The posting should include: job title and department, job specification, job description, salary range, steps in application, deadlines, and affirmative action statements. Review and appeals procedures should be specific. Counseling should be available.

Blueprint for Effective Hiring Practices

Article Abstract:

It is important to have a plan to make employee recruitment effective. Begin with a general job description, then write up a detailed outline of job responsibilities. A new employee should complement the existing staff and fit into the office. A blind ad requesting applicants to send in resumes is a good way to control the first stages in the selection process. It is important to prepare a questionnaire and list of personality traits of the ideal candidate before conducting an interview. These reference tools, a job description, job outline and job profile will enable a manager to be much more effective in interviewing candidates.

Ideas to action: a project blueprint

Article Abstract:

Century Companies of America, a financial services company, has devised a seven-phase blueprint for managing special projects. The seven phases of project management are: conceptualization; feasibility analysis; detailed project planning; development and construction; implementation; post-project implementation review; and sign-off. The steps required to complete each phase of the project are described.
