As safe as houses?

Article Abstract:

Do-it-yourself retailers must educate customers as to the risks they may encounter when carrying out home improvements, according to organisations involved in health and safety. All electrical products must provide adequate safety instructions, although retailers are under no legal obligation to cover safety aspects with consumers. Hospital treatment is required for up to 3,500 people during the first weekend of May each year, which is when most people begin undertaking do-it-yourself jobs.

Screening clean up: health screening and surveillance has a fundamental role i preventive medicine but pre-employment screening and in-post health surveillance raises serious ethical questions for all professionals involved

Article Abstract:

Health screening and surveillance is important in preventive medicine. Employees are screened to identify individuals and groups who risk developing work-related health complaints. Employers recognise the value of a healthy workforce to their businesses. Screening techniques include basic health surveillance and biological monitoring, using molecular-based techniques and genetic screening. Information from test results can be sensitive and confidentiality is a crucial ethical issue.
