Employing society's "outcasts."
Article Abstract:
Some companies are giving individuals considered unemployable by other business a second lease in life by hiring them. These people include the homeless, the economically disadvantaged, the welfare-dependent, the educationally deprived and former convicts. Companies that employ these marginalized people teach them leadership, integrity and appearance skills, thereby giving them an increased level of self-esteem. Eventually, this results in better professional and personal lives, helping these people get away from a life of abuse and welfare. Three companies that are actively helping these 'outcasts' are Coors Brewing Co., the DELSTAR Group and Mini Maid Services Co. Based on the experience of these companies, the two most important issues that need to be considered in employing these people are training and nurturing.
