Damping off and root rot
Article Abstract:
Replacing peat moss in a grower treatment made up of 50% peat moss, 25% vermiculite and 25% perlite with 25% compost and 25% peat moss can suppress damping off in snapdragon plants, according to research undertaken at the New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service. Damping off can also be suppressed, although to a lesser extent, by replacing the 50% peat moss element in the grower treatment with 12.5% compost and 37.5% peat moss. Earlier research with biosolids compost at New Mexico State University also showed that it is effective in protecting chile peppers against the phytophthora root rot.

Is our healthcare system in crisis?
Article Abstract:
The universal healthcare system of Australia does not need radical reform despite media reports that claim it is in crisis. A greater focus on the quality of care and outcomes is important though. Participation in private health insurance has dropped from about 50% of the population before the current system, called Medicare, was introduced in 1984 and is now at just over 30%. Most people get into the hospital within 30 days, but it seems some who can afford to pay get in faster. The nation's health spending in terms of percentage of GDP is around the average for the world.
