Intelligent 401(k) design: reevaluating the cost structure
Article Abstract:
The increasing popularity of salary reduction savings plans also known as 401(k) plans have resulted in increasing plan costs which are primarily shouldered by participants. Instead of reducing costs as a result of growing assets, increased investments in 401(k) plans brought about rising costs due to additional management, administration and record keeping services as well as increasing competition between plan sponsors. To bring costs down and ensure maximum return of investments, it is imperative that participants choose funds which have lower internal management fees. The benefits of reducing investment management fees are presented.

Counting the cost: the impact of reducing the work week
Article Abstract:
Reductions in the work week have increased in the UK engineering industry since 1989, in large part due to the Confederation of Engineering and Shipbuilding's (CSEU) Drive for 35 campaign. The campaign, which began with strikes, led to a 37-hour week in many companies. The results were mixed, according to a survey of 21 firms, in that several companies enjoyed better work conditions while others suffered due to increased labor costs. Changes included reduced tea breaks, flexibility agreements, and bell-to-bell working in lieu of washing-up time. A 35-hour work week would be the next goal of the unions.
