Equitable pricing reflects the real value of benefits
Article Abstract:
A considerable number of employers offer flexible benefits packages to make their employees become more aware of and more responsible for these benefits. While flexible packages allow employees the freedom to choose the benefits they value the most, they also present several problems for benefit managers. Among these difficulties is dealing with shifting prices and enrollments among and within the benefit options from one year to the next. A suggested solution to this problem is to adopt the equitable pricing method. This strategy bases the pricing of options on how much coverage they offer. The aggregate option price is multiplied by the number of enrollees in the option. The product should be equivalent to the total possible cost of the medical program. This pricing method also offers benefits to employees, such as option prices that represent the value of the option's coverage.

Managing absence in the public sector
Article Abstract:
A survey of the sick leave policies of the British organizations where the union has recognition commissioned by the largest British public employees' union, UNISON, revealed more than two-thirds of employers to have changed their approach to absence control in the past three years, while less than half said absence control measures were jointly negotiated. Employers are setting unrealistic targets for absence management, according to UNISON branches.
