Labour standards in international trade agreements: an assessment of the arguments
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to develop an analytical framework for the examination of labour standards in international trade agreements (LSITA). This approach makes it clear that LSITA can form an enabling framework at international level, ensuring that collective bargaining and labour legislation at national level can bring higher standards of living for everyone. It is important to consider how LSITA might be enforced, either through moral suasion or through a trade-related mechanism.

Borrowing from Europe? Employers' views on associability and collective bargaining reform in the new South Africa
Article Abstract:
A survey of employers' opinions about collective bargaining reform in South Africa is discussed. It was found that a number of basic convictions have a significant impact on an employer's likelihood to associate and thus take part in the revised bargaining system. These convictions include belief that institutional support is effective in managing labour relations better.

Chile's transition to democracy after 17 years of dictatorship is reviewed with focus on the political and economic dynamics of the process. The features of the 1973 Labour Plan, the 1994 Labour Code, and the 2001 Labour Reform are also examined.
