Mastering a foreign acquisition

Article Abstract:

Corporate communication that integrates the existing culture of an acquired company can necessitate a successful acquisition process by a foreign company. Foreign acquisitions hold the greatest tendencies for policy, personnel, and cultural conflict, and as such human resource (HR) executives play a critical role in alleviating the occurrence of such clashes by ensuring that employees are informed about the changes brought on by the acquisition process. The HR executive must possess the ability to quickly grasp the workings of the foreign company in order to deal with communication barriers. Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd in its acquisition of MCA Inc hired international communications and employee benefits consultant Hewitt Associates to assist in devising its communication plan.

Successful benefits conversion

Article Abstract:

Converting from one health system to another can be a complicated process for any type of organization, especially if a company is involved in a merger or acquisition with another company as was the case of Rainier Bank which recently merged with Security Pacific Bank Corp. Specific issues that developed when Rainer's employees switched to Security Pacific's flexible benefits program included: the need to hire a project coordinator to oversee the project; the need to educate quickly Rainier employees about features in the benefits plans; and to ensure communication remained open so that Rainier employees understood what changes were occurring.
