Mexican women managers: an emerging profile
Article Abstract:
A profile of Mexican women managers is presented. This analysis is based on the experiences of 12 Mexican women in senior management positions. The nontraditional management styles of these individuals focus on open communication, non-confrontational problem solving, high level of self esteem, empathy with the personal and professional concerns of employees, delegation and organization of work, and prioritization of staff development. The obstacles faced by these women in their advancement to the senior positions included stereotypical and traditional attitudes, doubts regarding their competence and authority, backbiting and discreet pressure, patronizing conversations, and the assignment of jobs only to men. Lastly, they are able to manage the work-family interface.

Career plateauing: reactions and moderators among managerial and professional employees
Article Abstract:
Individual career success is usually represented by a steady climb up the career ladder. For companies, the mobility of employees and job satisfaction enhances productivity and improves job performance. The phenomenon of constricted job mobility is fairly new and is mostly in response to corporate downsizing and reorganisation. The concept of career plateauing, where the prospect of future job advancement is low, has profound effects on employees' work attitudes and behaviours. Details of a study of managerial and professional employees in private and public sector organisations in Singapore and their reactions to career plateauing are analysed.
