Pharmaceutical stock? Try the drug store

Article Abstract:

The choice of the drug retailer on which to invest should be made cautiously with an eye on the most efficient chains. Walgreen Laboratories Inc has been the most popular big chain since it posted good earnings for the three months ended May 1992. Walgreen's ability to provide benefit plans with mail-order distribution gives it an edge over competitors in the mail-order prescription business. Another company which should give a good return on investment is Revco DS whose post-bankruptcy earnings were higher than expected. Hook SuperX Inc and Perry Drug Stores Inc are also good choices.

Keep eye on Europe; steer clear of Germany

Article Abstract:

Investors are advised to focus on Europe in the months ahead because of an expected downturn in interest rates. Except for Germany, which has not given any indications of when it will relax its tight monetary policy, most European countries locked into the European Monetary System are predicted to make big interest rate cuts. The UK, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria are considered as promising investment sites.

Managers favoring use of value strategy

Article Abstract:

Analyst Claudia E. Mott of Prudential Securities predicts that value would improve with economic conditions. Value is considered to be a better strategy, with stocks reaching an annualized total return of 11.6% from Jan 1967 to Jun 1992. A powerful force called 'regression to the mean', the tendency of deterioration of very high returns over time, shows the relation of value and growth.
