Software takes PC risk assessment to the final frontier
Article Abstract:
Risk for Windows, produced by Quest, enables companies to store information about their employees, accident recording, risk assessment and COSHH. It costs 299.99 pounds sterling which is cheap compared to other packages which are available, however, neither the manual nor the on-line support are very helpful. There are spelling errors and the some of the field labels are confusing. It is suggested that Risk for Windows is best suited to the offshore industries rather than for use in offices.

Ventilation of confined spaces
Article Abstract:
Workers in confined spaces face many risks including those related to atmospheric conditions. Confined spaces must have adequate ventilation when the work involves hazards including gases, dusts and oxygen depletion. Mechanical ventilation will be either exhaust ventilation or general or dilution ventilation. The ventilation should begin before entry, it should continue throughout the work, and exhaust outlets should be sited to avoid either re-entry of the exhaust air or danger to others.

New software pushes your knowledge of confined spaces to the limit
Article Abstract:
Producers of the CD-RM 'Confined Spaces, What You Ought to Know' aim to promote awareness of the dangers associated with working in confined spaces to anyone who has any connection with this working environment. The CD-ROM achieves some success in meeting this aim. The illustrations and animations are particularly good, and the revision questions are useful. However, the text is badly constructed throughout the presentation, and the section on risk assessment is especially unhelpful.
