Special waste
Article Abstract:
The environment agency (EA) is very much concerned about the difficulties faced by the producers in the treatment of and disposing off the wastes as this process costs a lot, also to transport the waste to long distances to be dumped at the landfills is risky as some incidents may occur on the way. The possibilities to minimize the hazardous wastes depend on various factors such as the legislation and specific regulatory requirements, technical and economic considerations, etc.

Special waste: in the first part of our 3-part mini-series on minimising hazardous (special) wastes, Paul Reeve looked at the preferred starategies for dealing with waste
Article Abstract:
Two main principles that are applied to the management of hazardous waste are Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO). Waste minimization is a recognized "techniqueo under BAT, which does not always require expensive technology, while BPEO for hazardous waste is based on whether treatment, reuse, recovery or disposal are best.
