The impact of computerised performance monitoring design features on the peformance appraisal process
Article Abstract:
Computerised performance monitoring (CPM) systems have the potential to improve the exactness of employee performance appraisals. About 60,000 US companies use CPM systems to monitor employee speed, performance, breaks, attendance, errors and output. Types of industries using CPM systems include insurance, communications, banking and manufacturing. Supporters of CPM systems claim that they are non-biased. However records still have to be examined by raters who may have a biased opinion on the information provided by CPM. Critics claim that CPM systems offer quantitative rather than qualitative appraisals.

MRP II: a prospectus for renaissance
Article Abstract:
Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II), which is a takeoff from Material Requirements Planning (MRP), is a new method that can be used by US manufacturing companies in improving company performance. MRP II, which is a computerized system making use of formal planning and control procedures, has so far been ignored by US companies. Companies have expressed doubts regarding the feasibility of using MRP II in their operations. Results of a recent surveyof companies using MRP II in their operations show no justification for the misapprehensions of US companies regarding MRP II.
