Two workers killed every minute, says ILO

Article Abstract:

Over one million people throughout the world die every year due to their work, according to United Nations International Labour Organisation Health and Safety Programme Chief Jukka Takala. The death rate is particularly high in China, India and Central and Eastern Europe. The figure of 1.1 million is higher than deaths from any other single cause, including war and road accidents. Takala estimates that 600,000 of these lives could be saved through implementation of known safety and health practices, including those related to silicosis, substance-related cancers, and asbestos poisoning.
