Assisting clients with self-insurance
Article Abstract:
Self-insurance is a growing trend, and insurance companies that can capitalize on it will have a better chance of retaining their clients' business. Large companies are the major source of alternative risk financing, but local agents can offer similar services to meet their clients' needs. Self-insurance and alternative risk financing require thorough knowledge of the pertinent regulations on the part of insurance agents. Conventions, periodicals and trade journals are good sources of information.

But outlook is only fair as competition heats up
Article Abstract:
Although the performance for workers' compensation insurance lines improved in 1994, A. M. Best Co expects only a fair outlook for these lines in 1995 due to increased competition. A number of workers' compensation underwriters want to increase market share which will increase the intensity of competition. Some companies have offered discounts to employers in CA who control medical portions of workers' compensation claims using managed care techniques.
