CPCU's beginnings
Article Abstract:
The American Institute for Property and Liability Underwiters (AIPLU) was formed in 1942 largely through the efforts of Dr. Solomon S. Huebner. Huebner strove to make insurance a new academic discipline which led to the professionalization of the insurance industry. Together with his former student, Harry J. Loman, Huebner formulated a curriculum and examination for students of insurance. Later on, the AIPLU decided to confer the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation to qualified candidates. Since then, almost 32,000 insurance personnel have benefited from the CPCU program.
