Poultry virus infection in Antarctic penguins
Article Abstract:
The infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) is feared to have spread in the Adelie penguin population of Antarctica. In a random sample of penguin chicks collected from the Auster Rookery and Mawson, IBDV antibodies were discovered using standard virus neutralization tests. IBDV may spread throughout the continent through improper waste disposal and the movement of contaminated vehicles, people and equipment.
