Insurers hustle to meet health reform deadlines
Article Abstract:
Health insurance companies are busy implementing policy reforms in compliance with the July 1, 1997 effectivity of the Health Insurance Portability Act. However, the varying deadline scheme wherein some of the provisions have earlier deadlines while others will be gradually phased in have complicated the act's implementation. The act covers limits on pre-existing condition exclusions, guaranteed issue and guaranteed renewable policies for people who lose group health coverage. A certificate of creditable coverage will be provided to those whose policies are up for renewal.
