Managing mental health benefits
Article Abstract:
The system for managing mental health benefits at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX was redesigned from the medical to the clinical model. Based on clinical assumptions, the redesigned provisions rejects the view of mental illness as basically like any other disease which fails to provide correct guidelines for treatment. Patients are usually subjected to inpatient treatment under the medical model when it is often inappropriate and unnecessary. Moreover, most practitioners believe outpatient treatment is preferable. However, when inpatient treatment is necessary, it should be short term or long term only in severe and chronic cases.

Employer-sponsored health benefits: pros and cons
Article Abstract:
Employee health benefits are currently expanding with more flexibility and diversification. The benefits employers provide their employees are usually widespread and already entrenched in the corporate structure. Recently, some employers have included information and education programs as part of employee benefits while others are redesigning benefits based on employees as individuals. Thus, benefits administration has become a combination of high finance and employee relations. However, the unemployed and those in marginal positions and industries are neglected with regard to health benefits.
