Insurance executives are currently faced with the challenge of upholding underwriting discipline and producing respectable operating returns in light of today's extreme capitalization, increasing competition and heightened customer expectations. Large insurers, headed by Winterthur Swiss, Travelers and Zurich, have expanded their financial service capacities through major acquisition and merger activities in 1997. Insurance companies are advised to keep in step with current information technology trends which are reshaping traditional distribution methods to avoid falling behind in the property and casualty insurance industry.
