Article Abstract:

Individual annuity direct premiums and fund deposits have ballooned from $80.143 billion to $85.806 in 1996 simultaneously with a 19% decline in fixed annuity deposits. The increased sales of variable annuities is attributed to a strong stock market and lower interest rates. A list of top single-premium deferred annuities (SPDA) products and their accumulation values are presented. The survey includes 88 insurers and the historical performance of their leading plan available since 1992.

Insurers need an effective data analysis environment to be able to identify potential clients and develop a way to attract them. A effective data analysis environment also allows segmentation of current and potential risks. It facilitates analysis of buyer values and behavior, the company's competitive position, profitability and loss performance. It also facilitates identification of premiums which can be lowered for greater competitiveness.

Finding the right mix makes the difference

Article Abstract:

The personal lines insurance industry has had several significant changes over the years, such as rational pricing, baby boomers, information access, and technology, all of which affect direct marketing. Greater underwriting and marketing control, along with lower distribution costs, are two critical success factors, as well. Special features and services need to appeal to customers, although price is dominant in buying decisions.
