Postemployment benefits: financial considerations in the development of a group long-term care insurance program
Article Abstract:
A group long-term care insurance program has to take into account several financial issues, such as solvency and the financial stability of the insurance carrier, conditions under which premium rates/and or coverage may be changed and the basis for determining reserves. Moreover, employers should choose a carrier which is reliable and observes business ethics. Given these considerations, employers need to carefully structure a program and wisely choose a carrier. A well-designed group insurance program, however, translates to significant advantages for their employees, compared with individual products.

The bigger picture: a context for retirement benefits
Article Abstract:
The annual meeting of th Society of Actuaries tackled a number of issues related to the aging society. These include the near-poverty condition of the aged, the increasing size of the older members of the population, that the health care costs for the aged have remained the same since the start of the Medicare program in 1965, and the need for support for the weak older people especially those without family. These indicate that the demand for retirement benefits is expected to rise and employers must be prepared to make their own contributions toward this end.

Postemployment benefits: medicare issues and employer implications
Article Abstract:
Social security experts predict that the Medicare trust fund would become insolvent by the year 2002. The Bipartisan Commission on Entitlement and Title Reform's findings regarding the implications of entitlements on the US economy seem to bear out this prediction. Congress should now tackle the issues of Medicare and entitlement to avoid impairing the government's capacity to care for its citizens and undertake other essential functions.
