The economic impact of employee health and fitness programs
Article Abstract:
Worksite health promotions and fitness programs combuned with cost containment strategies are the best remedies for increasing medical care costs. For the program to be effective, however, a company should conduct an assessment of need as well as include program options such as stress management and health education. In addition, the company should have a marketing scheme and a staff selection program that must be conducted as early as possible.

New ERISA disclosure rules for health plans: meeting the requirements
Article Abstract:
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) changes requirements employers have for disclosing information about health plans to employees. Information includes names of issuers of plans available to employees, contacts within the Department of Labor who can explain benefits, benefits for mothers of newborn infants, and benefit reduction. The HIPAA prescribes effective dates for disclosing the information.
