Asia and the security of the South Pacific's island states
Article Abstract:
The island States of the South Pacific enhance their security by using their expertise in maritime resource management to resolve their disputes with Asia and forge closer links. Asia also faces risks from any future conflict in Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and New Caledonia. In addition, Taiwan's new international image can affect the island states as well as their relations with Asia. While Asians tend to notice the islands only for strategic purposes, they should pay attention to the problematic areas before any trouble erupts.

Chinese economic reform and security policy: the South China Sea connection
Article Abstract:
There is a strong link between Chinese economic reforms and the security policy in the South China Sea. Conversely, the natural resources in the South China Sea and the trade-friendly location of islands there would further the country both economically and strategically.
