Averting failure in Afghanistan
Article Abstract:
The present US and NATO strategy of establishing security in Afghanistan has not been successful due to the low level of resources and the absence of a peace treaty which has led to increasing insurgent violence, a continuing drug problem and entrenched warlords who retain power in much of the country. Afghanistan's success in building democracy and improving social and economic conditions depends on overcoming these problems and rebuilding the justice system and this requires a long-term strategy and international commitment to success.

Pakistan's dangerous game
Article Abstract:
NATO forces are not very successful in controlling the rising violence in Afghanistan, and increasing the number of foreign troops or improving the competence of Afghan forces will not be effective. The solution to this problem lies in Pakistan, and policymakers should convince the government of Pakistan to undermine the insurgent sanctuary on its soil and pressure Pakistan to curb public recruitment campaigns for the Taliban and close training camps.

Law and order in Palestine
Article Abstract:
The Palestinians who have an ongoing battle with the Israelis saw intra-Palestinian violence in the Gaza strip as well as the West Bank on numerous occasions in the year 2004 and most of it had to do with the demand that their leader Yasser Arafat give up some of his powers. The Palestinians would do well to learn from experiences in countries like East Timor as well as Bosnia and try to build their fledgling nations based on these experiences.
